The Logistics of E-Commerce

The development of e-commerce on the internet implies the adjustment of logistic systems to meet new demands expressed by traders and customers alike. Situated half-way between mail-order selling and mass distribution, this new form of logistics, sometimes called e-logistics or infogistics, is confronting the electronization of firms' commercial functions with the constraints of physical flows. In order to identify the strategies set up to get round these constraints, the author suggests a typology of the actors involved and questions the nature of this new dynamic. Is a form of direct distribution on the point of emerging?
