THE TELENAUT PHENOMENON OR TV/COMPUTER CONVERGENCE AMONG THE YOUTH

This article draws on a quantitative and qualitative survey on 350 young people in the Montreal area of Quebec, Canada, concerning their day-to-day use of ICT. The author describes the phenomenon of inter-technological reappropriation of equipment available at home and analyses trans-media practices. He highlights a singular phenomenon in Telenauts' practice: the simultaneous use of television and the Internet. As we know, young people born into a world with Internet and computers use ICT very differently from those that grew up in the age of television. 40% of them watch TV while chatting, playing or searching for information on the Internet.
