The question of the digital divide and social cleavages related to the (non-)take up of information and communication technologies (ICT) is now the subject of an abundant literature. In this article the authors rapidly outline a (necessarily partial) state of the art, paying attention to the way in which it has been treated from the particular angle of sociabilities. They then focus more particularly on one of the forms of interpretive apparatus used to problematize the differentiation of relational practices and their relations with ICT: social capital. The notion of social capital has the peculiarity of linking two orders of the social reality usually studied separately: interpersonal links and stratification.
