The Paths of Articulation Between Private Life and Professional Life
THE PATHS OF ARTICULATION BETWEEN PRIVATE LIFE AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE Personal use of ICT at work
This article explores 'secret uses'? - i.e. for 'personal'? purposes - of ICT at work by couples with young children, as well as their telework practices at home. In order to understand the phenomenon, four dimensions are considered: identity at work, domestic and educational work, degree of autonomy in the couple and, finally, structure of the social network. These four intertwining dimensions outline diverse ways of being and acting, to articulate social times. The author paints a detailed picture of a group whose time is fragmented, and where the boundaries between the private and professional spheres are particularly porous. Finally, she examines how these various time-related cultures are peculiar or not to certain social categories (managers and/or secretaries).
