USES OF ICT, WORKING CONDITIONS AND EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION

The diffusion of information and communication technologies in firms and the related organizational changes tend to alter employees' perceptions of their working conditions. The aim of this article is to study the effects of professional use of the mobile phone, the computer and Internet on job satisfaction, by distinguishing the effects of ICT themselves and those related to the organization of work. Based on an INSEE survey of households' living conditions, the authors show that these technologies and especially the computer have complementary positive effects on satisfaction. The mobile phone has contrasting effects as it is also a source of stress. Finally, the results highlight the existence of overlapping effects of ICT and the organization of work.
