Community Practices through the "Hmong" Forum
By Mayhoua Moua
English

The recent history of the Hmong, a minority mountain people from China, has been marked by two waves of migration: the first in Indochina in the early 19th century and the second after 1975 in a large globalized diaspora. The author shows how the boundaries between 'us'?, the Hmong, and 'others'?, the non-Hmong, are reproduced on the Internet in a discussion forum devoted to the French-speaking Hmong community. The assertion of this 'we'?, along with its paradoxes, participates in the construction of a collective imaginary fed by the writing of a collaborative history. The emergence of these community practices is already moderating the impact of the Web 2.0.
