This article outlines an ecology of information practices in the political field through the study of the system of relations that citizens maintain with their information environment. It shows that the way in which individuals combine various sources of information depends on their age, socio-economic position or relation to politics. We can thus identify four main types of information practice, the extent and diversity of which increase in the higher social strata and among more politically active people. Moreover, the authors find that the development of the Internet tends to maintain a certain overlap between the information, social and civil divides in French society.
