The Complaint and the Voice

Online fraud is a relatively new mass predation phenomenon for the justice system and private individuals. How do victims react and what resources do they mobilize when they are victims? By processing the data from the national victimization surveys, the authors of this article discovered a relatively high reporting rate which raised a question: why is this level so high, since we know that for banking offences linked to Internet, victims no longer need to go so far as to file a complaint? The analysis of online discussion forums shows that filing a complaint is just one of the stages in a long process of the production of the status of online fraud victim, during which they are forced to develop specific skills, to take action and to seek reparation.
