It considers the tensions involved, as regards both traditional modes of consumption and ordering by telephone or fax. The analysis draws on two case studies: one of a Quebec supermarket that processes orders on its central web site and a small grocery trader in the Parisian region that has no physical shop and uses all forms of distance ordering.
