RADIO AS A SOCIAL SPACE FOR ADOLESCENTS Transition rites and new agents of socialization

Radio listening in the 15-16 age-group has many of the features of transition rites. With their evening 'free voice'? programmes, music stations for the youth (Skyrock, Fun Radio, NRJ, Le Mouv', etc.) have created an essential space for and with adolescents. In the past ten years, through various means of transgression, mockery and games, via the testimony of peers and older listeners, or through the identification with a community of others concerned by the same 'problems'?, radio has become a social space of prime importance in dealing with various social and cultural issues related to adolescents' learning processes, expression and socialization.
