The digital divide is an unmeasured concept in quest of meaning. As a result of its malleable contours, a multitude of diverse and sometimes contradictory measurements have been made of the extent of the phenomenon. In this article the author reviews the main indicators currently used and discusses their relevance. He distinguishes two main types of indicator: synthetic and simple. The discussion primarily concerns consistency in the use of synthetic indicators.
