TV ADAPTATIONS AND TEMPORAL FIGURES. The seven faces of Les Mis?rables

In this article which examines the successive TV adaptations of Victor Hugo's Les Mis?rables, the notion of adaptation is considered not only as a result but also as an activity. The study is based on the stated intentions of author-adapters, with a particular focus on the temporal figures that they mobilize to characterize their approach. The author analyses how the evolution of the modalities of interpolation of temporalities leads these author-adapters to transform the motivations of their characters'action. Due to the resistance of the original text, the tensions, contradictions and aporia of the anthropological models that successively inhabit them are highlighted.
