OPENING REMOTE TRIALS BY VIDEOCONFERENCE. Activity, performativity, technology

Use of videoconferencing by the French judiciary has increased over the past few years between the Paris Appeal Court and the Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon Higher Appeal Court. This article analyses the changes that the use of this device has entailed, both in behaviours and in the course of ritualized court proceedings, especially the opening and closing of court hearings. The authors show magistrates', clerks' and lawyers' concern to ensure that the quality of the proceedings does not in any way appear to have declined.
