Routine Uses of Computing at Home

By Thomas Beauvisage
English

This study describes the uses of computer technology and the Web at home, and their evolution since 2000. The author proposes a comprehensive framework for the computer use in French households. How is this resource, potentially available all the time, mobilized and how does it fit into households' rhythms? How is it shared between users in the same household? He then considers individuals and uses of various families of software. Finally, he describes uses of the Web by comparing the characteristics of Web surfing in 2005-2006, after the advent of the 'Web 2.0'?, and data from 2000 and 2002.
