Citizenship, Media and ICTs

Special Report: Thirty Years of a Journal
Thirty Years of Covalent Bonds (within the Journal Réseaux)
By Fabien Granjon
English

This paper examines how Réseaux has tackled the topic of citizenship and studied it from the particular angle of its relationship with the evolution of media forms. From the very first issues, this theme has clearly been one of the journal’s focal points. Réseaux has published numerous contributions that shed light on citizenship and the social uses of mass media, first generation ICT systems and, more recently, Internet technologies. While this review is in no way exhaustive, it does encompass a large share of the contributions that could be linked directly to the topic of citizenship, before most research orientations shifted to social uses of ICTs.
