INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION IN A CONTEXT OF PROLIFERATING CONTACT TECHNOLOGIES

With the upsurge of 'contact technologies'? and their use in communication practices, the question arises of the reconfiguration of different forms of interaction and their place in the shaping of daily sociability. This article examines that issue by combining the different sources of data available through the Entrelacs project. The authors assess the extent of the intertwining between different voice and text communication tools, in practice. Who, either jointly or not, uses telephony, SMS, IM and email? What factors explain the uses of these tools? They then show that this intertwining differs from one network of sociability to the next, and depends on local trade-offs by the actors.
