Emigration from the Philippines, facilitated by the local government since 1974, concerns all levels of society. Today, women and skilled workers make up a growing proportion of overseas Filipino workers. To describe these migrant's communication, the author develops a triple-helix model that takes into account intertwined relations between the Philippines, the host country, and other foreign countries. He shows how e-communication helps to alleviate family tensions, even if it does not always relieve the solitude of individuals, often trapped in their professional logic.
