Through the emblematic example of VSL, this article analyzes the influence of new technologies on the organization of the work of film scoring composers. The introduction of computing into this artistic world has totally disrupted the age-old process of writing and relations with patrons: it has imposed the need for new skills bearing no relation to professional training; it has paradoxically reduced artistic freedom through the multiplication of possible musical choices and therefore outside interventions; and it has challenged the historical relationship between composers and orchestras.
