Mobile games are a prime example both of a successful application on mobile devices and of the growing number of platforms available for the media and entertainment industries. Exploring this convergent landscape, this paper analyzes the main characteristics of the mobile game market and of its industrial ecosystem, as well as its main activities and actors. It focuses on the role of the various software platforms and on the future challenges and opportunities facing mobile game developers in a new scenario where mobile platforms prevail.
