This study focuses on the field of air traffic control as an archetype of the move towards computerization and maximum automation. We examine the role and place of digital information and communication technology in pilots’ and air traffic controllers’ work. More specifically, we investigate the way in which the technological information systems currently employed equip information production and communication activities and, in so doing, support what we identify as the process of rationalization of these activities.
